Gold

She snagged a firefly from the air, removed its light with a fingernail, rubbed it onto the sidewalk to make it glow. But the gold had lost its shimmer. The treasure was gone.

A beautifully layered piece. The harshness of her removing the firefly's light with a fingernail is reminiscent of so many human attempts to control nature's gifts.

Very melancholy. Removing the firefly's glow with a fingernail... powerful imagery.

A little boy who lived next door used to do this, but he'd stick the light to his forehead and chase me. It always made me cry. Beautiful piece. Simple, sad and meaningful.

Quite a picture in so few words. I loved it.

Poor firefly. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone.

As a lover of fireflies and grandmother of five boys, I know from whence you speak. Nicely one.

One of my favorites.. " But the gold had lost its shimmer. The treasure was gone." A moral here?
